The Legend: The temple’s legend revolves around the retrieval of the wish-fulfilling jewel, the Chintamani.
- The jewel was originally with Sage Kapila, but was stolen by the greedy prince Guna.
- Lord Ganesha fought Guna to retrieve the jewel. After Guna was subdued, Sage Kapila decided he no longer desired the jewel and garlanded Ganesha with it instead.
- This entire incident, where Ganesha relieved the Sage of his worries (Chinta), is said to have occurred under a sacred Kadamba tree.
